The sound of fireworks on Independence Day scared Boon out of his mother's womb into this world at Rosa's Cantina in El Paso Texas. Immediately surrounded by family and friends, waiters and chefs, patrons and well-wishers, Boon never looked back.

A plaque on the wall now honors the event and legions of faithful fans make the annual pilgrimage to this famous shrine.

At the young age of 22 he won the grueling Firecracker 500 at Rockingham in a beat up Chevy.
